Brown Shoe is made up of four brothers—Aaron, Bryson, Ryan and Landon Baggaley—and
Chandler Clemons who might as well be a brother. Their music has been described
as an “imaginatively dense soundscape…alongside steady awe-inspiring rhythms
and uplifting melodies.” Their previous three albums (The Wheat Patch, Vanity,
Jackalope) received broad radio play, charted on CMJ, and garnered numerous TV
placements. Their sound has drawn comparisons to
Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Mumford and Sons, The Red House Painters, R.E.M., and The
National. In recent years Brown Shoe has crisscrossed North America a number of
times, playing festivals, clubs, and colleges, winning over a diverse fan base
across the country.
After three back-to-back national tours in support
of Jackalope, Brown Shoe decided it was time to get back in the studio and
begin recording the manically expansive and treacherous tale, “The Gift Horse”
(unreleased, 2011). Getting back to work with Joe Johnston at Pus Caverns near
their hometown of Folsom, CA, they began recording in March 2010 and finished
up a full year later. As Bryson (bass, drums) put it, “The record only took 863
cocktails, a few trips to the hospital, one girls patience and a year of this
or that.”
Brown Shoe will be out on the road supporting “The
Gift Horse” in fall of 2011.
